Matej is Omnisearch’s Chief Technology Officer, and an expert at every level of the computing stack – from hardware to web applications. Matej was one of the earliest employees at Memgraph (Techstars ’15), where he built much of the core database infrastructure.
He is also known for his involvement in competitive programming, and he served as the chair of the Technical committee for the Central European qualifiers for the ACM ICPC World Finals during the three years they were held in Zagreb.

The immortal language: why C++ still matters
The C++ programming language has been around since the 1980s and is still the tool of choice for doing high-performance systems programming. In this talk, Matej will talk about the team’s decision to go with C++ as the main language for the Omnisearch engine and share practical advice for engineers thinking about the same route. The talk will conclude with a practical case study – optimizing the search engine to reduce the memory footprint by a whopping 80%.
